VOLTAGE Group: Utility-Scale BESS Contractor Delivers 20 MW / 40 MWh in Ukraine
About the project
Ukraine has taken an important step towards energy independence with the launch of the country’s largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) complex, totaling 200 MW of power and 400 MWh of capacity. The project was implemented in partnership with DTEK and Fluence Energy. This is the first facility of such scale in Ukraine, setting a new benchmark for the industry. VOLTAGE Group acted as the key contractor for one of the sites, delivering 20 MW of power and 40 MWh of capacity. All works were completed in a record 4 months — right on schedule before the start of the autumn-winter period.

Challenge
- Integration of the first large-scale BESS in Ukraine into the existing grid under strict regulatory, technical, and operational requirements.
- Modernization of grid infrastructure to strengthen energy security, ensure compatibility, and increase system flexibility.
- Implementation of frequency balancing and reserve functions. With the ability to accumulate and release energy in critical moments, the system enhances the resilience and reliability of the power network.
